Boy, there is a word, "turmoil"- we seem to all be in turmoil right now- no outward peace, all chaos.
So, we need to look to inner peace, to the real knowing that exists. We all can touch it and live there if we work at it, we can all connect with the inner peace which is Oneness, God, whatever name you give it.
The way to connect is to stop , sit quietly, (and you can do this on a crowded subway car -only you need to be silent), and just go inside yourself. Hear your own breath, listen to the calm within.
That is Oneness whispering to you.
Enjoy the inner calm, lose the turmoil of the outside world. Then when you are ready, step back into the turmoil- it won't seem so overwhelming.
I wonder if turm-oil is worse than hydrogenated corn-oil?
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, this disturbance in the fabric that holds us together is being felt by everyone I come into contact with. The dictionary defines turmoil with words such as confusion, uncertainty, disorder. And we sure are feeling all those states.
But a very helpful image that Eckhart Tolle uses is the surface waves on the ocean or a lake during a storm and the calm that exists as you go deeper. The deeper you go, the calmer it gets. The image that I always remember is the first time I took off on a plane from LaGuardia on a very gray and rainy and stormy day. Everything on the ground was soaked, the sky way foreboding, the clouds heavy and dense, almost black, at noon. When the plane took off, there was a lot of nervousness, and the plane shook as it was on the runway, its engines straining to lift the iron bird and its cargo off the ground.
And then it took off and started climbing, with heavy rain pelting at the tiny windows as if to say "let me in NOW!" And then…
…the plane rose above the clouds and there it was: the brightest blue sky, sunlight, and not a single cloud…
Because we can't see the sun and the sky, does not mean they are not there in all their glory. Because we can't see the fish calmly swimming in the depths of the ocean during a storm, it does not mean they are gone forever. Because we can't see God, does not mean there is no God. All things are there. It is we who obscure our own vision.
And you are right. Sit still inwardly, while there is storm on the outside. You'll remember what is there, if can you go deeper and higher than where you are right now.
And the other benefit of being silent is that you can't hear the angels when you are talking constantly. I understand they speak in whispers and they are so polite that they will never interrupt your chatter in mid-sentence. They will wait for a break, and wait until you are really quiet before they will tell you anything.
this was the pic for the day from Nat Geo. that is on my blog- and it goes with your comments perfectly! thanks for sharing
